CAA Baseball Signs Braden Looper and Matt Nimer: Expanding the Agency's Reach (2026)

CAA Baseball Just Got Even Stronger – But Here’s Why It’s a Game-Changer for the Industry

03.03.2026

In a move that’s sure to shake up the world of Major League Baseball representation, CAA Baseball has announced the addition of two heavy-hitting agents to its roster: Braden Looper and Matt Nimer. Both former WME MLBPA certified agents, they’ll now report to CAA’s powerhouse trio of co-heads—Andrew Nacario, Matt Ricatto, and Ryan Hamill. Nimer will operate from New York, while Looper sets up shop in Chicago, bringing their unique expertise to these key markets.

And this is the part most people miss... It’s not just about the names; it’s about the stories behind them. Looper, for instance, isn’t just an agent—he’s a former MLB pitcher with a decorated career spanning 1998 to 2009. He suited up for the Cardinals, Marlins, Mets, and Brewers, playing pivotal roles in two World Series wins. In 2003, he was a key reliever for the Marlins, and in 2006, he helped the Cardinals clinch the title. After retiring, he seamlessly transitioned into representation, earning his MLBPA certification and working with industry giants like Hendricks Sports Management (his former player agency) and later WME Sports.

Nimer’s journey is equally impressive. After nearly two decades in the Yankees clubhouse, he made the leap to WME Sports in 2021, where he became an MLBPA certified agent. His deep understanding of the game, both on and off the field, makes him a valuable asset to CAA’s growing team.

But here’s where it gets controversial... With Looper and Nimer on board, CAA Baseball isn’t just expanding—it’s solidifying its position as a dominant force in MLB representation. Already home to superstars like Dodgers phenom Shohei Ohtani, Red Sox pitcher Garrett Crochet, and Phillies shortstop Trea Turner, CAA is now even better equipped to negotiate blockbuster deals and shape the future of the sport. But does this level of consolidation benefit players, or does it tilt the power dynamics too far in favor of agencies? We’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
