The restoration of a historic hall in Bradford-on-Avon is currently underway, aiming to revive it as a vibrant venue for music and comedy. This initiative comes in the wake of devastating floods that struck in November 2024, leading to the temporary closure of St Margaret's Hall, an 18th-century gem that has historically hosted craft fairs, weddings, and various community events.
Jack Vittles, the mayor of the town, expressed his satisfaction with the commencement of the restoration work, highlighting the potential for the hall to reopen by May. "We’re excited about bringing quality events back to this location. With 190 seats available, we are set to host engaging comedy performances and live music shows," he stated enthusiastically.
The flooding, which resulted from rising river levels, had a significant impact on the town center, causing disruptions for numerous local businesses. In response to the disaster, efforts to dry out the hall have been ongoing, utilizing fans and dehumidifiers to mitigate the damage; however, more extensive repairs are now being implemented.
"We’re taking proactive measures to enhance the building’s resilience," Vittles explained. "This includes elevating electrical sockets, replacing flooring, and implementing other improvements to ensure that it can withstand future floods more effectively."
The goal is to have the hall ready to host events once again by early May, revitalizing its role as a central hub for community activities. "We’re looking forward to welcoming back the community and making this venue a focal point once more," he concluded.
