Breaking News: Hyderabad's Cricket Team Gets a New Leader! Get ready, cricket fans, because a significant change is underway for the Hyderabad team! Mohammed Siraj, a seasoned international player, has been appointed as the new captain. This marks a pivotal moment, as Siraj steps into the leadership role, replacing Rahul Singh. But what does this mean for the team's upcoming matches? Let's dive in!
Siraj's captaincy debut will be in the upcoming Ranji Trophy matches against Mumbai and Chhattisgarh later this month. This is a huge opportunity for Siraj, as he leads the team for the first time. The team is currently positioned fourth in Elite Group D, having secured one win and one draw from their initial five games. Their schedule includes a home game against Mumbai on January 22nd, followed by another home fixture against Chhattisgarh on January 29th. Adding to the mix, Rahul Singh will serve as the vice-captain.
A Star Player Returns: The match against Mumbai will be particularly noteworthy as it marks Siraj's first Ranji Trophy appearance this season. Due to his national commitments with the Indian ODI squad, he was previously unavailable. Currently, he is playing in Rajkot as part of the Indian ODI squad.
Siraj, at 31 years old, brings a wealth of experience to the team. He's a veteran of 109 international matches, including 45 Tests, 48 ODIs, and 16 T20Is. He has played in 19 first-class matches for Hyderabad, taking 77 wickets with an average of 23.29 and a strike rate of 45.2. His overall first-class record includes 88 matches and 309 wickets at an average of 26.44.
Behind the Scenes: The selection committee announced Siraj's appointment on Wednesday. The committee also includes Aman Rao Perala, who recently scored a double century in a Vijay Hazare Trophy game. The committee is headed by P Hari Mohan, with NP Singh, Jyoti Shetty, Sheik Riazuddin, and Akash Bhandari as other members.
"We have spoken to him and he is available for the remainder of the season. He is a fighter and always looks to win, and we are confident that this will rub off on others," said Harimohan, the chairman of selectors, to Cricbuzz. "As for Aman Rao, he has been doing well for us in the Under-19 and Under-23 age-group matches and is coming off a good Vijay Hazare Trophy season."
