Nicolo Bulega's Dominant Display in Australia
The Australian Round of the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship has seen an incredible performance from Nicolo Bulega, who has dominated the track so far. But here's where it gets controversial...
Bulega, riding for Aruba.it Racing - Ducati, has claimed the top spot in every session, including the Official Test and all three Free Practice sessions at the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit. He finished ahead of Sam Lowes and Axel Bassani, solidifying his position as the rider to watch out for.
In Free Practice 3, Bulega pulled off an impressive hat-trick, finishing three tenths ahead of his competitors. His consistent pace throughout the session was a testament to his skill and strategy. With a best time of 1'28.273s, he left no doubt about his dominance.
But the battle for second place was intense! Sam Lowes, with a late surge, managed to secure P2, just edging out Axel Bassani. Bassani, riding for bimota by Kawasaki Racing Team, had set an early pace with a 1'28.722s lap, but Lowes' late charge saw him take the position.
The Kawasaki-powered teams dominated the top five, with Alex Lowes and Garrett Gerloff joining the party. Iker Lecuona, Bulega's teammate, closed the gap in the final minutes, finishing just behind his teammate in sixth.
And this is the part most people miss: the battle for the top ten! Yari Montella and Alvaro Bautista, both on BMWs, showed their prowess, finishing seventh and eighth respectively. Danilo Petrucci and Miguel Oliveira, separated by just 0.007s, rounded off the top ten.
