Travel Advisory Update: FCDO's New Guidelines for Egypt, Dubai, and UAE (2026)

The UK Foreign Office has issued a travel advisory that could impact your vacation plans! With tensions rising in the Middle East, the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) has updated its travel advice for Egypt and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), including popular destinations like Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

But here's where it gets tricky: In Egypt, the FCDO warns of a heightened risk of regional tension, which could lead to travel disruptions. They advise against non-essential travel within 20km of the Egypt-Libya border, except for El Salloum, and recommend avoiding the North Sinai Governorate entirely. Additionally, they suggest limiting travel to specific areas in the South Sinai Governorate and Ismailiyah Governorate.

The FCDO has also placed restrictions on travel to the UAE, advising against non-essential trips. This includes Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and other tourist favorites. The advisory extends to Sharjah as well.

And this is the part that affects travelers the most: Evacuation flights have already begun as tourists find themselves stranded due to the escalating conflict. Over 11,000 flights have been canceled since Saturday, impacting more than a million passengers, according to Cirium, an aviation analytics firm.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has assured that the government is deploying rapid deployment teams to assist British nationals in the region and facilitate their safe return home. He urged all British citizens in the area to register their presence for better support and to stay updated with the Home Office travel advice.

A controversial aspect: While the FCDO's advice aims to ensure traveler safety, it may leave some travelers disappointed and frustrated, especially those with upcoming trips. The question remains: Is it better to be safe than sorry, or should travelers be allowed to make their own informed decisions?
